Mindful Packing: Our Top Tips

Here is a guide on mindful packing by Imogen, a longtime travel enthusiast of @explorerwondererwriter on Instagram. I am a freelance travel and lifestyle writer with a passion for sustainable travel, so after many years of traveling, I have picked up some tips that will level up your packing game.

1 -  Create a list

This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many of us don’t plan our outfits and must-haves before we go.

Whether you prefer pen and paper or the notes app on your phone, create a master guide to your trip. Think about what you are going to be doing each day. Think about any events you may be attending.  While we have all been there and packed too much for a 3-day trip, you will probably find you feel better when you already have an idea of what your outfit each day will look like.

2 - Packing a capsule wardrobe

Now, a capsule wardrobe may not be for everyone, but it is something to consider on holiday. Relating to our first tip, a capsule wardrobe allows you to take one of each item of clothing while allowing endless outfit options. We like to follow this simple 10-day packing equation - for ten days of travel, two bottoms, five five tops. From there, you can divide or multiply depending on the number of days you are away.

 3 - Laundry Bags

Ready for a simple trick that your future self will thank you for? Use laundry bags to separate your whites and darks, or simply everything that needs to be cleaned back home.

We love our high-quality linen laundry bags, with a solid drawstring to keep the contents securely inside. Created by the award-winning designer Thomas Bentzen, our laundry bags are naturally antibacterial fabric with a high degree of breathability, making them the optimal, sustainable choice as a laundry bag. Our products are made to last you for life, so you can reuse our laundry bags for years and years to come.

4 -  Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are essential. We cannot travel without them.

We love to use packing cubes as a simple trick to organize clothing items by their type, i.e., trousers, tops, and underwear.  We love our extra strong linen packing cubes with a top-of-the-line zipper so that they will both last a lifetime and age gracefully. Linen is the perfect fabric for packing as it is naturally antibacterial while looking stylish inside your luggage.

5 -  Separate your electronics

So many of us need to take electronics and all the cables that come with them. Whether it is the charger for your kindle or your laptop to stay up to date with emails, separating your electronics is vital. It also means everything will slot in much more smoothly without anything poking out and around at the side of your luggage. We recommend popping them in one of our laundry bags or packing cubes so you can keep them all in one place.
